Blogging? January 14, 2008

I had never seen a blog before this class. I am not “crafty” with technology at all. I’m very happy that this class is offered because I’m learning about different aspects of technology that I have never heard of before such as RSS (Real Simple Syndication). I know how to check my e-mail and my phone. I love text messaging. That’s all…

I never thought that blogging could be so simple. The textbook opened my eyes to the fact that technology can be not only safe but also fun. It is important to let students know that they must be safe on the internet. Privacy is the key. Maybe that is why I only check e-mail on my computer.

In some ways I think that blogging is too public. I agree with Richardson that blogging can be productive in some cases. I have to wonder though, is blogging sometimes unsafe? I can see how it can help companies or even teachers. Teachers can post assignments for the students as well as have a discussion for the topic on the blog.

I have one question. When I was growing up, I didn’t always have a working computer. What about the students who do not own computers? Even if the students do have the computers, students do not always make wise decisions about what they post on the internet.

        Just some thoughts…
